Last First Day…

  • I completed my last first day of the semester with CST 499 (Senior Research Project) and ESS 100 (Rock Climbing).
  • I have no textbooks so far
  • It’s nice to get to your last year and in every class there is at least one familiar face even in Rock Climbing
  • Our house is a mess, but I have really nothing to do tomorrow, so I shall clean it then.
  • I’m making meatballs for meatball subs tonight
  • Zach is visiting me this afternoon
  • We are playing Settlers of Catan tonight
  • I think I’m going to be really bad at rock climbing. We only did some bouldering today in class and played some games that made me think back to YMCA camp training.
  • Jake is at work, so I’m looking forward to hearing how his class went
  • I feel old…the end.
  • My boss at Howard Johnson is letting me stay on staff even though I won’t be able to work for like over a month and then after that not very often. He’s been so laid back and flexible with my schedule. I’m thankful.
  • My tailbone hurts…it’s lame.
  • One of these days I’ll write about something more substantial
  • I’m reading an excellent book from my mother called “What did you expect: redeeming the realities of marriage” by Paul Tripp.  I would like to post on it eventually because it has really been impacting my life.
  • I alphabetized and categorized our bookshelf a few weeks ago by author and into three categories (fiction/biography, christian education (non-fiction), and reference books. Since our library (if you can even call it one yet) is small, so it was enjoyable and hopefully as it grows it can stay that way. I like order.

A Book Review: “Churched”

I am doing a blogging for books program through Waterbrook Publishing and this is my first book review.  I feel bad  I can’t give the book a very good review. Hopefully I’ll get better at giving more in-depth reviews as well.

“Churched: One Kid’s Journey Toward God Despite a Holy Mess” by Matthew Paul Turner is a memoir about the author’s experience in a fundamental Baptist church growing up. The book tells humorous stories starting when he was young through high school.
Negatives: Personally, I thought the book seemed exaggerated especially when he was young. Can someone really remember events that clearly and distinctly when someone is 5 years old?
I thought he was hard to follow because he seemed to go off on tangents in the middle of a story.
Positives: I thought the book got better as he grew-up. The events didn’t seem as exaggerated.
It was an easy read except for the fact mentioned before.
I didn’t grow up in a Baptist church, so maybe someone who grew up in a church like that would find it more humorous, but overall I wouldn’t waste your time reading it.

“I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review”

Changes…

  1. The most obvious one…It’s 2011.
  2. I start my last semester in about a week and a half. I am looking forward to being done in May, but am not looking forward to starting another semester. I’m kind of scared of my senior research project. I’m sure it will be fine once I talk to my project adviser…there’s just a lot of unknowns about that class. I’m really looking forward to my indoor rock climbing class…I’ve never rock climbed before. Jake will have a class this semester as well. He is trying to form an intramural basketball team which would be a lot of fun for him if he could play.
  3. I accepted a second job yesterday with APAC. It will not be the most exciting job ever because I will be a customer service rep. on the phones. I’m sure I’ll learn a lot though. I can go part-time during the school year, and then move to full-time once I graduate if I need too. They only promote from within which is a plus. So I think it is a smart move. The training schedule will be kind of crazy because it’s Tuesday through Friday 5-10pm and Saturday 8-6pm for nearly two months which means I won’t see much of Jake and it’s going to make having dinner together nonexistent for a little bit. But once I get on my regular schedule it will be much nicer. I still have to decide what I’m going to do with Howard Johnson.
  4. We’re looking for a second car. Jake’s car is not doing so well and we’re not so sure how we’re going to do it this semester with only one car. We haven’t had much “luck” so far…it’s kind of discouraging.
  5. We signed up for the Netflix free trial for the month of January. It’s been fun watching things together. We have been mostly watching Psych seasons and Jake has been watching The Pacific series. Last night we watched the Pianist, it’s based on a true story during WWII.
  6. Nathaniel, my little brother, stayed with us for a little over a week. It was nice to have the company while Jake was gone at work. Plus he didn’t mind helping me wash the dishes and taking out the trash. He’s a funny kid (who’s a freshman in high school now!). Jake and I both really enjoyed having him stay with us.

Getty Music…

I tend to go in spurts with the type of music I listen to, but generally I like music that has meaningful lyrics (hence why  I can’t listen to Cake music, even though, my husband would argue otherwise regarding Cake’s lyrics).

This week I’ve listened to a lot of Keith and Kristyn Getty (modern-day hymn writers). If you can ever see them in person, I would highly recommend it, because their recordings do not do their music justice (plus they have awesome accents).

When Trials Come

When trials come no longer fear
For in the pain our God draws near
To fire a faith worth more than gold
And there His faithfulness is told
And there His faithfulness is told

Within the night I know Your peace
The breath of God brings strength to me
And new each morning mercy flows
As treasures of the darkness grow
As treasures of the darkness grow

I turn to Wisdom not my own
For every battle You have known
My confidence will rest in You
Your love endures Your ways are good
Your love endures Your ways are good

When I am weary with the cost
I see the triumph of the cross
So in it’s shadow I shall run
Till You completes the work begun
Till You completes the work begun

One day all things will be made new
I’ll see the hope You called me to
And in your kingdom paved with gold
I’ll praise your faithfulness of old
I’ll praise your faithfulness of old
